Maui Golf Trip Planning
The 5-Day Maui Golf Itinerary
Maui rewards golfers who give it a few days. This five-day plan is built around Kaʻanapali Golf Courses — Maui's original resort golf destination — and woven together with the beaches, ocean adventures, and Upcountry experiences that make a Maui golf trip a real vacation. Play the island's classic layouts at a relaxed pace, with time to explore in between.
Arrive in West Maui and Settle In
Arrive at Kahului Airport and make the scenic drive to Kaʻanapali, one of Maui's premier golf and resort destinations. After checking into your resort, spend the afternoon easing into island time and getting acquainted with the area.
Recommended resorts:
- Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa
- The Westin Maui Resort & Spa
- Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa
- OUTRIGGER Kaʻanapali Beach Resort
- Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows
If you're staying at the Royal Lahaina Resort, consider unwinding with a treatment at the new Spa at Royal Lahaina to start the trip relaxed.
As sunset approaches, take a leisurely walk along Kaʻanapali Beach before dinner at Happy Fish Maui, known for fresh seafood and spectacular sunset views.
Play the Royal Kaʻanapali Course
Start your golf with the legendary Royal Kaʻanapali Course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the championship layout has welcomed PGA Tour professionals and countless visitors for decades, with panoramic views of Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi.
After your round:
- Browse the golf shop
- Enjoy lunch at Roy's Kaʻanapali
- Spend the afternoon relaxing on Kaʻanapali Beach
In the evening, don't miss the famous sunset cliff diving ceremony at the Sheraton Maui's Black Rock (Puʻu Kekaʻa).
Dinner: Japengo at the Hyatt Regency Maui.
Your Choice: Ocean Adventure or a Second Course
Day 3 is built around what kind of trip you want. Take a break from Kaʻanapali and either explore the water, or get in another round at one of Maui's other championship courses.
Option A — Ocean Adventure + FootGolf
Spend the morning on the water with one of these:
- Gemini Sailing snorkeling cruise
- Whale watching (December through April) aboard Teralani Sailing Adventures
- Parasailing with UFO Parasail
Then return to Kaʻanapali Golf Courses in the afternoon for FootGolf — played on the Kai Course with a soccer ball, it's a fun, low-key activity for golfers and non-golfers alike, and great for families.
Option B — Play Another Maui Course
If you came to golf, use today to experience a different corner of the island. Kapalua Golf, just north on West Maui, offers two championship courses (the Plantation and the Bay), while Wailea Golf Club on the sunny south shore offers three (the Gold, Emerald, and Blue). Both are an easy add to a Kaʻanapali-based trip and rank among Hawaiʻi's best.
Dinner: Ulu Kitchen by Merriman at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa.
Play the Kai Course
The Kaʻanapali Kai Course offers a completely different experience from the Royal. With wider fairways, gentle elevation changes, and unforgettable ocean views, it's enjoyable for golfers of every skill level.
After golf: Walk the beautiful Kapalua Coastal Trail, one of Maui's most scenic oceanfront walks, featuring lava-rock formations, secluded coves, and spectacular viewpoints.
Dinner: Roy's Kaʻanapali.
Explore Upcountry Maui Before Departure
Before heading to the airport, venture into Upcountry Maui for a different side of the island. Popular stops include:
- Maui Kuʻia Estate Chocolate
- Oʻo Farm coffee and farm tour
- Maui Animal Farm (advance reservations recommended)
These experiences make for a memorable final morning before your flight home.
